My first official full on outfit post. Pretty exciting. Never really done this officially but I’ve really been into my outfits the last few days plus I was very comfortable, Both inside and out. Which has inspired me to write about it. I didn’t wear anything fancy and I didn’t wear designer duds. The fanciest thing I wore were my beloved Miz Mooz booties. Which are becoming as worn as my Docs. Sadly.
I’m noticing a personal trend these last few days. I don’t know if it’s the cold foggy very un-spring-like weather, my mood, the early mornings or what but I’ve totally been embracing this monochromatic thing. And since I love to know as many words as possible, (I have both a thesaurus and dictionary app on my phone) I’ve taken it upon myself to add the definition of monochromatic:
Favorite Detail: The juxtaposition between the softness of the floral blouse and the edgy lines of the booties.
Seeing that it took me five minutes to get dressed this morning, I would wager to say nothing beats a dress. The Antelope booties are another eBay steal. The dress is a thrifted Calvin Klein. I was excited when I picked this up for $1.50 on half off day at a local thrift shop a few years ago. I actually forgot about it until I started shifting through my closet this past weekend. (A massive chore!) I like it because it’s constructed without being stiff and flattering without being presumptuous. The bangles I got in Cleveland in 2010 at Forever 21 while on a mall excursion with my little sister. I only recently started wearing them and am now glad that I didn’t get rid of them. And again with the jacket! I blame the weather. I promise I won’t be wearing it all the time. Trust me I have many many coats. I have closets of coats in two states actually. I was really into them for a while.
Favorite Detail: The functionality! The booties are really easy to walk in and I LOVE a dress with pockets.
Over my lifespan I’ve written about a lot and writing about what I wear on a daily basis is weird I have to say. Clothing, in my mind, is one of the most creative tools out there. We can be anyone we want on any given day. I think that’s pretty special. But for me (and I’m sure multitudes of other folks) it’s a very personal thing. And the only thing I had control over for a long time. Dressing in the morning and just being around clothing is kind of as essential as breathing for me some days.
So maybe it’s all the mayhem in my life right now or maybe it’s my sub-conscious keeping SOMETHING simple but I’ve been drawn to this palette and I’m really liking it. I feel calm.
